Nawanshahr:Farmers of sub-mountainous areas in Punjab will soon be provided with fencing wire at subsidised rates so that they can save their crops from wild animals. A decision in this regard will be taken soon, state forest minister Sadhu Singh Dharmsot said.
Reiterating that the Amrinder Singh-led government is committed to providing a transparent and corruption-free government, he said there is be no room for the corrupt, including those in the forest department.
“Strict and prompt action will be ensured against people found having truck with those involved in illegally cutting and selling forest wood,” the minister warned, adding, “My priorities also include increasing the area under forest cover in the state.”
Dharamsot said the state government will give land for forests after trees were cut in the state recently as part of widening of roads and concretisation of canal network.
