Patiala:An incident of dowry death was reported from the sub-divisional township of Samana on Thursday in which a mother of two children was reportedly set on fire and the police on the basis of the complaint of the brother of the deceased have registered a case against her In-Laws. In-laws had gone underground and the police started raids to nab them. However, the in-laws refuted all allegations against them.
The brother of the deceased Jatinder Pal Kaur, daughter of Avtar Singh of Rajpura, Harjit Singh said that his sister was got married to Surinder Pal Singh son of Manohar Lal, a resident of Samana, in the year 2007 and later from their wedlock two children were also born. He said that but since the marriage, Jatinder Pal’s husband Surinder Pal Singh and his parents use to pick up quarrels with her.
He alleged that her sister’s in-laws use to demand more dowry but their demand was not met in any way. He said that now only on Wednesday he received a call from his sister and she asked him to come because once again her in-laws are quarrelling with her to seek more dowry. He said that he along with his wife came down to Samana to settle the issue and only left Jatinder’s house on Thursday morning on 2 am after settling the issue. He said that but it’s strange that on 4 am in morning he once again received a call from Jatinder’s in-laws and they told him that Jatinder has burn herself and died. He said that he returned to Samana with other family members and found Jatinder dead with burn injuries.
Later the family members of the deceased gathered outside the civil hospital at Samana and raised slogans and demanded justice in the case and registration of a case against Jatinder’s in-law as they set her on fire. They demanded the custody of the children of Jatinder too. The police reached the spot and assured full justice to them. The in-charge of the Samana City
Police Station, Bhupinder Singh told Daily Post late Thursday evening that a case under sections 304 (B) and 120-B of the IPC has been registered against Surinder Pal Singh (husband of the deceased), Manohar Lal and Bala (father-in-law and mother-in-law of the deceased) on the basis of the statement of the brother of the deceased Harjit Singh. The police also said that further investigation in the case is on and the body of the deceased has also been handed over to the family members to conduct her last rites after getting the post mortem done in the hospital. Besides the police have also started conducting raids on the possible hideouts of the accused as they have gone underground soon after the registration of the dowry case against them.
However, the in-laws of Jatinder Kaur have reportedly refuted all such allegations and termed them baseless as well and they have claimed that it’s Jatinder Kaur who set herself on fire and they have even tried to save her but in vain.
