Sukhpal Khaira complaint Rana Gurjeet Enforcement Directorate. Upping the ante against Rana Gurjeet Singh, Power and Irrigation Minister in mining scam, Aam Admi Party (AAP) MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Wednesday filed a complaint to Joint Director of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Girish Bali against him. Khaira sought a time bound and an impartial inquiry into financial irregularities, ‘hawala’ and ‘benami’ transactions of the minister in the recently concluded e-auction of sand mining quarries of Punjab. The complaint was lodged on Tuesday. The Bholath MLA said that an ED probe was important to expose the ‘benami transactions’ of Amit Bahadur and other employees of Rana Gurjeet owned Rana Sugars Limited. “An investigation should be carried to trace out the money trail and source from where a whopping amount of Rs 13.50 crore was deposited into the account of Amit Bahadur and others, which they utilized to RTGS into the account of mining department of Punjab government”, he said.In his complaint, Sukhpal Khaira mentioned that gross irregularities amounting to money laundering were committed by Rana Gurjeet and his men to grab sand mines in the state. “By doing so, the minister and his accomplices have cheated, defrauded and evaded various taxes by indulging in “benami” and “hawala” transactions”, he added. The AAP leader said that unfortunately, Capt Amarinder Singh led congress government in a bid to shield and protect its minister made no effort to trail the account of Amit Bahadur and Rs 13.50 crore deposited by him.
He said that the money channeled through the accounts of Amit Bahadur and the other employees of the minister actually belonged to the companies and family of Rana Gurjeet. “Amit Bahadur and other employees, who bagged the sand mines were mere frontmen of Rana to carry out his illegal operations”, he said.Khaira also said that even Rana Gurjeet has also admitted to his financial dealings with Amit Bahadur in the 2017 affidavit filed before the Election Commission of India as a candidate from Kapurthala assembly constituency. It is pertinent to mention here that Amit Bahadur and three other employees of Rana Gurjeet bagged sand mines through e-auction held recently. However the fact was that Amit Bahadur is earning a meager salary of Rs 11,000 and his income tax returns of 2015-16 showed that his annual income was Rs 92, 680 only.Interestingly, Rana Gurjeet claimed that Amit Bahadur and other employees left his company a month ago but reports proved that Amit Bahadur was still a Director in three companies belonging to the family of Minister registered in Chandigarh, Khaira mentioned.
