Jalandhar: In the money laundering case registered in the 200 crore drugs case which jolted the state of Punjab in 2012, Rajwant Kaur, the wife of Raja Kandola has surrendered before the special court of Enforcement Directorate.
She surrendered in the court of District & Sessions Judge Raj Shekhar Attri who sent her in judicial custody till May 9. She was then taken to Kapurthala Modern jail. Raja Kandola and his son Bailly Singh are already in jail in this case.
The case made headline in India when Jalandhar police on an information raided a farm house in Nawanshahr and a residence in Garshankar on June 2 ,2012 and arrested 4 persons including 2 NRIs.
A large haul of drugs was found from the 2 places . Ice, the improved version of heroin was used in rave parties organised by these persons at different places. Raja Kandola, the kingpin escaped alongwith his girlfriend Wanya Khanna .Both were later arrested by Jalandhar police .Sukha Gakhal, a famous Kabaddi promoter was also arrested in this case who sent the drug assignments to foreign countries through Bhangra and Kabaddi troops.
Rajwant Kaur ,the wife of Raja Kandola was evading arrest and trying desperately to get anticipatory bail but she was directed by the Supreme Court to surrender and so she was left with no alternative. Her lawyers were taking the plea of her heart problem to bail her out .
ED was forwarded this case by Punjab Police as there were illegal transactions of foreign currency involved. Raja Kandola and others could not provide any details of their earnings as they owned luxury cars and immovable properties worth crores.
Notably 3 imported cars which included a Range Rover and a Mercedes were recovered from Kandola and his family by Jalandhar police. He had many properties to his name including 2 flats in Delhi, a Farm House in Nawanshahr and a big bunglow in Defence Colony, Delhi.
