Chandigarh:Comedian-turned-politician and Member of Parliament from Sangrur, Bhagwant Mann is having huge fan following not only in Punjab but also across the country and abroad. Born in Satoj village of Sangrur district, Mann started his comedy career by participating in youth festivals and inter-college competitions.
His second comedy album entitled “Kulfi Garma Garm” proved to be a huge success. Bhagwant Mann’s comedy focuses on Indian issues – politicians, policemen, business departments, and sports. Mann also gained nationwide recognition after he participated in the Great Indian Laughter Challenge on Star Plus. This widened Mann’s audience and made him popular worldwide.
A crowd puller personally, Mann landed into a serious controversy when he allegedly breached security of Indian Parliament after releasing a video clip on social media. His fellow MPs also accused him of coming to the Parliament in an inebriated condition.
A star campaigner of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann is the party’s candidate from the high profile Jalalabad assembly constituency, represented by Sukhbir Singh Badal, president of Shiromani Akali Dal
In early 2011, he joined People’s Party of Punjab (PPP), under the leadership of its founder Manpreet Singh Badal. Mann unsuccessfully contested Lehragaga assembly constituency in 2012 Punjab Vidhan Sabha Elections. He left the PPP in March 2014 and joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to contest as a candidate from Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.Mann defeated Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, a prominent Akali leader with the huge margin of 2,00,000 votes.
