Jalalabad:A group of miscreants on Sunday attacked a Police vehicle in the security convoy of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at Kandhwal village of Jalalabad assembly constituency in Fazilka district.
The incident took place when Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal had just left the venue for next destination. The vehicle which was damaged in the stone pelting belonged to SP (Special branch) Amarjit Singh, who was entrusted with the job to ensure the security of Deputy CM.
Though police claimed that no one sustained injury, people in the village informed that one person had a minor wound as a stone hit him on hand.
Fazilka SSP Ketan Patil Baliram, when asked, said, “There are hardly any provocations from the police or administration side on the venue but it was lot of disgruntled people in the village who had some issue with the Sarpanch there. After the Deputy CM left the venue other vehicles in the convoy were chasing his SUV and all of a sudden a group of 20-odd youngsters hurled stones at them, during which the official vehicle of Fazilka SP (Special Branch) Amarjit Singh was damaged.”
“We are on the job of tracing the accused and on the parallel formality to register a case has also been initiated,” added the SSP.
According to information, it was the first day of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s election campaign in Jalalabad assembly constituency, which he is contesting for the third consecutive time.
He was addressing the election meeting in Kandhwal village where a group of people wanted to have word with him. It is learnt that they had come with a complaint regarding the development works of the village.
The villagers were also annoyed with the attitude of the Sarpanch and Deputy CM’s OSD Satinderjit Singh Manta. As the two knew about their issue, some Akali workers foiled their bid to meet Sukhbir Singh Badal, which irked them.
The villagers attempted to intercept the vehicle of Deputy CM but the security didn’t let it happen. Following that, some of the fuming villagers (unidentified) started raising slogans and encircled a private vehicle. As the police forcibly let that vehicle move away, one of the protesters hurled stone at the SP’s official vehicle. The first stone worked as a trigger which led many others to resort to the same.
Speaking to Daily Post, SP Amarjit Singh, whose vehicle was damaged, said, “As it was dusk, we couldn’t identify the assailants but the process is on.”
It is learnt that after the news spread, the Shiromani Akali Dal workers of the area were all set to turn violent but a message from Sukhbir barred them from taking law in hand. Meanwhile, some of the videos related to the attack went viral and police were collecting them to identify the accused.
It is pertinent to mention that few days back the SAD leaders had lodged complaint against AAP leader Bhagwant Mann for instigating his party workers to hurt Akali leaders by hurling stones during their visits in villages.
