Phagwara: Following the dropping of charges against two leaders, Congress Phagwara candidate Joginder Singh Mann on Wednesday said that SSP Kapurthala must probe that on whose behest the wife of a BJP leader was roughed up by the police officials.
In a statement, Mann said that dropping of charges against two leaders has vindicated the stand of Congress that the police was following the diktats of SAD-BJP leaders. They falsely implicated their foes, thereby violating the Model Code of Conduct, he said.
Recently, Phagwara police had man-handled Monika Chadda, the wife of a BJP leader Nitin Chadda by conducting raid at her house. Congress leaders maintained that Nitin was wrongly booked by the police in a scuffle with a BJP leader post elections. It was only after Congress leaders protested that the woman was released by the police.
Mann said, “Now when the enquiry conducted by SSP has found that one of the person framed up by the Police under Section 307 of IPC was not even at the spot of brawl, then enquiry must be conducted to ascertain that on whose orders SHO Nirmal Singh and Sulakhan Singh raided his house and roughed up his wife.”
He said that it is shameful that without any lady police, SHO Nirmal Singh pushed the lady in his car and took her along with her children to the police station. “This was not political matter but an emotional issue involving human values,” he said.
