As Lok Sabha elections were round the corner, the ruling Congress party has started cornering the BJP Government over the issue of Toll collection and hanging development projects initiated by Union Government. In Ludhiana, sititng MP Ravneet Singh Bittu is again set to contest Lok Sabha elections on Congress ticket. To gain the sympathy of public, Congress MP has started targeting BJP led Union Government over delay in projects.
In this series, the Congress party led by MP Ravneet Singh Bittu will stage protest against toll collection at Ladowal Toll Plaza in Ludhiana. The high toll fare at Ladowal on Ludhiana- Jalandhar national Highway pinches the commuters and the Congress has announced to stop the toll collection from March 8. The Congress cited the reason that the construction work of Highway from Panipat to Jalandhar was not completed yet. Though the company was supposed to complete the project in 2012 but the work was not completed yet but the company is collecting the toll tax from commuters.
MP Ravneet Singh Bittu said that if the company has not completed the project then they are not supposed to collect the toll. He has written several letters to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari but no avail and now they are only left with the option of forcibly shut down the toll plaza. Bittu said that the project was not completed as Congress MP represents Ludhiana in Parliament.
Apart from issue of non completition of Toll Plaza, Bittu has also targeted Union Government for delay in repair work of Jagraon Bridge. Congress MP stated that in July 2016, one side of the Jagraon Bridge was closed by the then government, while Railways declaring it unsafe for movement of vehicular traffic. He stated that after a long wait of almost one year, i.e. in 2017, when the Congress party formed government in the state, the Punjab government released funds amounting to approximately Rs 26 crore to the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana for this project. However, the railway on behest of BJP government is delaying the project.
