Ludhiana: The District Disaster Management Authority of the District Administration Ludhiana organised a mock drill on chemical emergency in the premises of Verka Milk Plant, Ferozepur Road on Thursday.
The mock drill, organised under the leadership of District Revenue Officer Savita, mainly aimed at creating awareness among people as well as the employees of Verka Milk Plant as to how the personnel are always in a state of preparedness and demonstrations on prevention and self-protection measures in the event of a chemical emergency were also showcased.
An impressive mock drill showcasing skills and techniques for rescuing people from chemical emergency (ammonia gas leak) was presented by a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Ladhowal, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other stakeholders.
Ram Lal, Company Commander, NDRF Ladhowal informed that today, the officials showcased as to how people can be rescued and treated in case of a chemical emergency, which in today’s case was ammonia gas leak.
DRO Ludhiana Mrs Savita informed that all stakeholders who participated in today’s mock drill would be judged on the basis of their response time in case of an emergency. She showed satisfaction that everyone reached the venue on time once they were alerted about the time and venue of the mock drill.
She also appealed to the city residents to always give way to the ambulances and fire tenders on the road because they have to reach their destinations on time. She informed that the main aim of today’s mock drill was to find out how much time it takes for the stakeholders and members of District Disaster Management Authority to reach a particular place in case of an emergency. She stated that more such mock drills would be organised in the coming days as well.
