The city that has once been called the ‘first city’ of India today is tears on its demise due to poor politics. The results of this year’s cleanliness survey showed that there has been a major reversal in many cities of the country in terms of cleanliness.
A new list of clean cities of the country has come up. Last time there were 476 cities in this list. This time in Punjab, any city of Punjab has not been located in clean cities. Not only this, Punjab’s Muktsar and Abohar have been nominated for the most dirty districts.
In Abohar , overflowing sewers, garbage heaps and lack of clean drinking water are common problems. Sunil Jakhar, who was an MLA for the three consecutive terms, said, “This has not come as a surprise as even in 2014, our city’s rank was 420. Abohar had Congress MLA while BJP’s municipal council and state government always created hindrances in getting even basic work done.”
On other hand, president city council Abohar totally disagree with this report and said that number of development works are done in the city, but it is possible that due to bad sewer conditions it might be in this list.
While talking to local people they are agreed with the sarvekshan report.
On this matter, Fazilka DC Isha Kalia said, “Cleaning works come under Municipal Council and I will be seeking a reply from them as why it was not done properly due to which the town scored a low rank. Basic cleanliness is the compliance of council. A meeting is being held and proper action on this will be taken.
