The Punjab Government has recommended registering case attempt to murder, under section 307 of IPC against such police officers and personnel, who were involved in the Behbal Kalan sacrilege act. Home secretary has written a recommendation letter to DGP in this regard. The Government has included the police action as part of the investigation along with firing incident.
In its recommendation, the Commission of Justice (Retd) Ranjit Singh has mentioned the role of then SSP Charanjit Sharma along with Policemen Shamsher Singh, Harpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Parminder Singh and SHO Ladowal Inspector Harpal Singh in the act of sacrilege as such names were disclosed by the Chief Minister in his Press Conference , held few days ago in Chandigarh . Cases would be registered under various section of IPC, who had assault AK 47 and other arms during the incidents. Sources in the CMO told that it was not political move to hand over the case to the CBI as there was involvement of senior Police officer of early batch. Therefore the investigation could not be handed over to the Punjab Police or any former DGP. Notable, the previous government had also handed over probe of two various incidents of act of sacrilege, which is still under investigation. The Punjab Government in move to table the report in full in the forthcoming Punjab Assembly Session, which is likely to be called in the end of August and the Government hopes to receive the report in full with another three part of the Commissionin two weeks.
