Ducati India has launched the 2018 Monster 821 in the country at a price tag of Rs 9.51 lakh (ex-showroom India). Positioned between the Monster 1200 and the Monster 797, the company has stated that the 2018 version of the naked street fighter packs enough power and technology to take on its rivals. Ducati’s dealerships across the country have started accepting bookings for the motorcycle for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.
So what’s changed? For starters, the Monster 821 now looks more aggressive than before thanks to a more muscular and sharper design that seems to have been inspired by its elder sibling, the Monster 1200. The Monster 821 also gets the same LED headlamps seen on the bigger bike.
Apart from that, it also gets a TFT full-colour instrument cluster, which is a feature that’s missing on more expensive bikes such as the SuperSport and the Multistrada 950. Other features include Ducati Safety Pack, a three-level Bosch ABS, an eight-level traction control and a total of three different riding modes – Urban, Touring and Sport. For seamless up and downshifts, the Monster also comes with a quickshifter with a slipper clutch.
Powering the 2018 Ducati Monster 821 is a BSIV-compliant 821cc, 90-degree L-Twin, Testastretta engine. Compared to the previous version, the new motor is down on power by 2PS for a total power output of 111.5PS @ 9250rpm. Peak torque, on the other hand, now stands at 86Nm @ 7750rpm when compared to the 89.4Nm of the outgoing model.
Ducati has equipped the Monster 821 with 43mm USD forks at the front and an adjustable monoshock unit at the rear. Braking, on the other hand, is handled by the same Brembo 320mm dual discs at the front and a single 245mm disc at the rear.
The pricing of the 2018 Monster 821 makes it go head-to-head with the Triumph Street Triple S (Rs 9.19 lakh), the Yamaha MT-09 (Rs 9.56 lakh) and the newly launched Suzuki GSX-S750 (Rs 7.45 lakh, all prices ex-showroom Delhi). We will be putting the Monster 821 through a comprehensive test soon. So, stay tuned to Zigwheels to find out what we think of the refreshed Monster.
