Chandigarh: Punjabi language has received the status of official language for more than 16 years in Chandigarh. But till now the Punjabi language is not officially used in official functioning. For imposing Punjabi language,Baljit Singh Khalsa, who has been demanding from a long time, created ruckus in the DC office at Sector 17, however, due to the deployment of the police, he did not succeed. Khalsa came to put black paint on DC office board. Baljit Singh Khalsa came holding a bucket with him. Khalsa who has been engaged in efforts to implement Punjabi language in Chandigarh from a long time. He also protested for it many times. Khalsa wanted to protest by placing black paint on board outside the DC office located in Sector 17 today, but before reaching it, the police got the information and reached there.As soon as he approached the DC office, police stopped him. After which he did not go ahead. The police took him to the DC. Khalsa informed that in 2001 the notification for declaration of Punjabi language in Chandigarh was issued. But despite this, it is not being officially used.After meeting with DC Ajit Balaji Joshi, his temper was a bit cold. He said that the DC has assured him that within a week, the board will be changed with Punjabi language too. Khalsa said that they will come back after a week. But this time they will be come without intimation. If the name is not written in Punjabi then they will definitely take action.
