New Delhi:With just few weeks left for Punjab going to have Vidhan Sabha elections, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday announced free pilgrimage to the Sikh devotees to Nankana Sahib and Panja Sahib in Pakistan if people voted the SAD-BJP alliance to power again.
These two historic holy shrines are being considered deprived from the Sikh panth and every Sikh yearns to pay obeisance in their daily prayer (Ardas).
The Chief Minister made the announcement while addressing an impressive gathering here at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium during the multimedia programme on the life and philosophy of Guru Gobind Singh organised by Punjab government in commemoration of his 350th Parkash Utsav.
While congratulating SAD president and Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal for creating a world class heritage infrastructure around Darbar Sahib at Amritsar, Badal asked the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) to run four special buses from here to Darbar Sahib on daily buses thereby facilitating the devotees to visit Harmandar Sahib as wll as the world class Heritage Street leading to the shrine.
The Chief Minister also urged the DSGMC to ensure smooth and hassle free pilgrimage for the devotees to pay obeisance at the birth place of Guru Gobind Singh at Patna Sahib on this historic occasion during the first week of January next year. He said that all such initiatives were feasible only when the pro-Panthic and pro-people government like SAD-BJP alliance was in power in the state.
While recalling the teachings of tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, Badal also exhorted the Sikh community to be unified. He also went on counting the construction of various memorials in the state with a mention that his government was respectful for all religions.
Adding political flavour to his speech, Punjab CM also ridiculed the anti-Sikh Congress government which perpetrated an attack on Harmandir Sahib and planned Sikh genocide in 1984.
Earlier in his address, motivating people to follow the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh, Sukhbir Singh Badal also appealed that all Punjabis should reach Patna Sahib next month and celebrate birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh with religious gaiety. He said that the SAD-BJP government made many efforts to keep youngsters associated with rich cultural heritage of Punjab such as through preserving and creating historical monuments.
He announced that he was working hard on transforming Amritsar city, adding that as he managed to give a new face to Heritage Street from Town Hall to Harmandir Sahib, entire Amritsar city would be beautified in next three years.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister along with Deputy Chief Minister unveiled the life sized statue of the legendary Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur installed at the Punjab Government’s estate Nabha House near Mandi House Chowk, with also condemning Delhi government for not keeping its words once promised to DSGMC. The CM and Sukhbir also handed over a cheque worth Rs 10 crore to the DSGMC for serving the Sikh community in a better way.
Earlier, the President DSGMC Manjeet Singh GK and General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa welcomed the dignitaries and gave a brief account of the achievements of its apex body. The two also condemned Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his predecessor for not keeping promises made with Sikhs.
