Chandigarh: The Union Government on Wednesday approved the much anticipated 4/6 laned national highway between Kharar and Ludhiana. The NH-95 Kharar Ludhiana highway will be constructed at a cost of Rs 2069 crores.
The new project is expected to give a boost to the incumbent SAD-BJP combine in the run up to the elections in 2017. Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal had for long been drumming up support for the project. He had met Union minister Nitin Gadkari in this regard on multiple occasions in the past.
Taking exception to the development, the Congress party on the other hand has termed it as a last-ditch effort to entice the voters ahead of the elections.
