Ludhiana: The police used water canons and lathicharged Congressmen staging a protest against the law and order situation in Punjab in front of the Mini Secretariat Complex here. Consequently, traffic has been halted on the Ferozepur Road.
Ravneet Singh Bittu, Congress MP from Ludhiana, who was leading the protest, has been arrested. As per reports coming in, several Congressmen have been injured in the lathicharge.
Among other Congress leaders, District Congress President Ludhiana Gurpreet Gogi is said to be badly injured and has been admitted to the hospital while District Congress President Khanna Lakhbir Singh Lakha has been detained.
Protesters pelted stones at the water canon, which led to the policemen undertaking a lathi charge. The Congressmen were seen throwing bangles inside the Mini Secretariat as a mark of protest against the allegedly deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.
