Jalandhar: Six passengers were injured when a private bus fell into Bist Doaba canal in Adampur on Friday morning,
The passengers escaped through the broken windows of the bus and were rescued by the farmers working in the nearby fields. The injured were admitted in the nearby hospitals where most of them were discharged in the evening.
The bus driver was reportedly under the influence of drugs and drove straight into the rivulet at 8.30 am on Friday near Mehtiana village of Adampur. The Adampur Police have arrested the driver Mukhtiar Singh of SBS Nagar.
As per passengers, the driver was behaving abnormally and was driving rash. The bus from Doaba Roadways was coming from Adampur and was bound for Kot Fatuhi. Near a rivulet bridge on village Mehtiana, the driver drove straight into the rivulet. The Adampur Police have booked and arrested the driver Mukhtiar Singh under sections 308,279,337,338 and 427H of IPC. “We got the driver medically examined and he was heavily under the influence of drugs as per the doctor,” Investigating Officer, Nirmal Singh said.
