Surat: Few days after the demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 notes, the information has been taking rounds that a Gujarat based businessman surrendered Rs 6000 crore in Surat. However, there was no official conformation regarding the development.
As information floated on the social media and other websites, Business tycoon Lalji Patel, diamond merchant from Surat has voluntarily surrendered 6000 crores in cash to the Government. Lalji remained in headlines for several reasons, he had gifted apartments and brand new cars to his employees on the eve of Diwali. Meanwhile, he has also donated 200 crores to the girl child education as well.
After the surrender of 6000, it has been said to deposit Rs 5400 crores as tax on the money deposited by Lalji Patel, reports says. He got 30 % as tax, which estimates 1800 crore and 200% as a penalty on the tax, which results the total of 5400 crores.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Surgical strike on black money has started targeting the riches and those who escapes themselves by not depositing tax. After the announcement of demonetisation, 3 lakh crores has been deposited in the banks till now.
