Amritsar: SGPC president Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar refuted the allegations levelled by the Punjab congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh over cash exchange against Sikh bodies. While trashing the allegations Badungar said that the Congress leader should have looked within before hurling baseless accusations.
In a press release issued here, Badungar said that in a recent statement Capt Amarinder has alleged that the Akalis were converting black money into white through Gurdwaras.
He said that it was highly unfortunate that leaders like Capt Amarinder don’t hesitate to drag religious places to prove some political brownie points.
The SGPC chief said that the Gurdwaras were functioning as per the provisions of the Act and the notifications issued in this respect and not even a rupee could be converted illegitimately.
Badungar said that the SGPC functions in a transparent way and all accounts were scrutinised besides publishing all the details in Gurdwara Gazette every month.
The SGPC chief alleged that Amarinder Singh was issuing such statements out of frustration in view of his impending defeat during the forthcoming elections.
Advising Capt Amarinder to think before he speaks, Badungar said that such statements would further erode his credibility which was already on a decline.
