Chandigarh: Just after four days of demonetisation of currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination, the Bhikhiwind Police in Tarn Taran police district Sunday recovered three fake notes of Rs 2,000 denomination and arrested two persons.
The police have registered an FIR number 204 in the Bhikhiwind police station and arrested Harjinder Singh, resident of Singhpura, and Sandeep alias Deepak, resident of Bhikhiwind. The third accused is absconding. The case has been registered under Section 489, A,B,C,D of the IPC, which relates to printing and possession of fake currency notes with intention to distribute them in the market. If convicted, one can be imprisoned for life. The minimum punishment is of 10 years of jail.
Police disclosed that investigating officer, ASI Gurdip Singh, had seized a computer, a scanner and a printer from the accused. The recovered note of Rs 2,000 denomination was numbered 4 CA 102501 which fully resembled with the new currency notes of the same denomination issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Another note of the same denomination and number was printed from one side and remained blank from the other side. The third note was yet to be processed through the printer. The currency notes had been sealed after recovery.
