Chandigarh: Harmanpreet Kaur elected as president of student union of MCM college Sec 36 Chandigarh. Harmanpreet Kaur is BA final year student.
The election for Student Council was held at MCM DAV College for Women here today. 1250 students enthusiastically exercised their franchise to choose their representatives for the posts of President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary.
Harmanpreet Kaur of B.A. III emerged victorious in the pursuit of the post of President with 467 votes in her favour while Arpana Gill of B.Sc. III was elected as the Vice President with 589 votes in her support. With 446 votes casted in her favour, Himani Sharma of B.Com.II made it to the post of Secretary and Nisha Mann of B.A.I with 621 votes was elected as the Joint Secretary. President elect Harmanpreet Kaur was on cloud nine as she thanked the voters for their support and vowed to work constructively along with the college authorities for taking the college to greater heights while giving a voice to various concerns of the students.
College Principal Dr.Nisha Bhargava said that the Student Council Elections are a way of initiating the students into the democratic process that is the hallmark of our country and preparing them to be the future leaders of the nation. While congratulating the winners, Dr. Nisha reminded them to be conscious of the responsibility that comes along with authority.
