Chandigarh: Taking the note of political statements after the SYL verdict in favour of Haryana government, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij today said that Haryana had demanded the State’s share of Ravi-Beas waters through the SYL on the basis of the same law and Constitution that Badal had taken oath to uphold when he had taken charge as Chief Minister.
Vij said that Badal should obey the orders of the Supreme Court and take necessary steps instead of disregarding these orders by calling an emergency meeting of the Cabinet. Describing the opposition of the Supreme Court’s orders by Punjab and the statement that not even a single drop of water would be released to Haryana as laughable, he said that Haryana had not demanded water from Mr. Badal or the Congress, and in fact had demanded its rights from the law of the country.
Vij said that Badal or former Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh did not own Punjab, nor did the SYL Canal pass through the courtyard of their houses. Haryana has a right to it, and the State is demanding its rights from the law of the country. He said that Haryana would definitely take its share of water, and assistance of the Army should be sought for the compliance of the orders of the Supreme Court so that the interests of the State were not ignored.
Lashing out at Capt. Amarinder Singh, the Health Minister said that no decent citizen or judicial system of the country would accept the breaking of all SYL-related agreements between Haryana and Punjab in 2004. The Congress members and Capt. Amarinder Singh are now resigning from the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha to hide their failure, he added.
