Amritsar/ Chandigarh: Tension prevailed in the Golden Temple complex during the function organized to mark the anniversary of Operation Blue Star.
The hardliners took over the entire proceedings at one stage, raising pro-Khalistan slogans and heckling ruling party representatives including Virsa Singh Valtoha and Harmeet Sandhu. The situation, however, was not allowed to get out of control and no one was hurt as temple security intervened to prevent any untoward incident.
Among the radicals, SAD (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann, who looked unwell, was among the conspicuous leaders present. Mann, however, veered away from the crowd complaining of chest congestion while others continued to raise
Golden Temple Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, who read a public message in the morning, said that it was not right to engage in these kind of activities and appealed for better sense to prevail among those trying to incite the people.
Elsewhere in Amritsar, markets were closed amidst heavy security presence. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere till the filing of this report at 2 PM.
