Patiala: The local police have traced a gang indulged in the child trafficking with the arrest of 8 members including six women of the gang, on Monday at Patiala. During the arrest the police have recovered a one-month old male child, who was kidnapped from Patiala a fortnight ago.
While addressing the media, Patiala SSP Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said that during the investigation it has come to fore that the accused had sold the child for Rs 5 lakh
While telling the tail of the incident, Chauhan said that a gang of five people including four women had kidnapped the child on 21st of October. The new-born Ashwin son of Bassan Singh, a resident of village Mundikota, in Nagpur (Maharashtra). The family was living in a ‘Mazdoor Basti’ near Tractor Market here.
A case was registered on the statement of Anita, the mother of Ashwin who had informed the police that three women posing as a government team came to their locality on Oct 21 and promised to pay Rs.5,000 each to the parents of new-born girls and Rs.1,000 to new-born boys. After identifying the new-borns in the locality they paid Rs.1,000 each to the mothers of new-born boys and also distributed Atta, Sugar, Tea, Rice and Fruit to the families.
They then asked the mothers to accompany them to Govt. Rajindera Hospital for a check-up but hoodwinked Anita and managed to escape with her son Ashwin.
Those arrested include Neetu alias Varinder Khanna wife of Mohinder Khanna, resident of Jourian Bhattian, Patiala and her daughter 2)Shaifali Jindal alias Shaily wife of Pankaj Jindal resident of Bagichi Mangal Dass, Patiala. 3)Vimal alias Baby wife of Harwinder Singh Kohli, Bahera Road,Patiala 4) Harwinder Singh Kohli 5) Komal daughter of Krishan Lal, Reta Wali Gali Patiala
He said all these were part of the gang that kidnapped the child. Besides Dimple Jain wife of Ashish Jain a resident of Pooja Vihar, Ambala was also arrested as she was the one who had brokered the deal between the gang and the couple who bought the child.
The others arrested include Anurag Gupta son of Satish Gupta and his wife Komal Gupta, both residents of sector 32-A in Chandigarh. The couple had bought the child for Rs.5 lakh and was recovered from their home.
He said that the police besides arresting all these people have seized a Logan Car, an Innova and a Motor Cycle.
Chauhan claimed that all seven cases of child kidnapping registered in the district have been solved.
