Ludhiana: Younger brother of MP Ravneet Bittu among six congress leaders booked for attempt to murder, kidnapping and hurting religious sentiments, on Tuesday at Ludhiana. The accused congress leaders have been identified as president Gurpreet Gogi, councillor Narinder Sharma, parvinder lapran, Umesh Sharma, Gurdeep Singh Pappu and Guriqbal Singh honey.
Meanwhile, the police have registered the case against Akali leaders identified as Tarsem singh Bhinder, Baljinder Singh Khalsa, Sukhdev Singh under sections 323, 341, 506, 148 and 149 IPC.
The police said that Congress leaders were booked following the compalaint of Tarsem Singh, whereas Gurpreet Gogi has given the statement against Akali leaders after the incident took place.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress leaders clashed over the effigy of Ravana at GLADA ground, Chandigarh road on Monday late night.
Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu, district congress president Gurpreet Gogi were injured. Gogi suffered head injury and admitted to Dayanand Medical college and Hospital (DMCH).
Eyewitness claimed that cops also opened fire in air to pacify the leaders. Later the Police have detained Youth Akali Dal Malwa Zone president Tarsem Singh Bhinder and his three supporters.
The Congress leaders were set to celebrate Dushehra against Drugs menace. The Akali Dal leaders suspected that the Congress might burn effigy of Ravana with head of leader of ruling party.
The situation turned ugly when Akali Dal leaders tried to remove effigy of Ravana in the presence of Police. The leaders of both party pelted stone on each others leaving Congress MP, MLA and district president injured.
