Ludhiana: Around 25 days after the 13-year-old class-VIII student of DAV Public School, Atharva Gupta had sustained multiple injuries under mysterious circumstances, the police on Tuesday gave clean chit to the school principal Satwant Kaur Bhullar.
In another major development in the case, the police have also cancelled section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC in the FIR.
Following the long investigation, the police have added Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice and Protection of Child Act 2005.
On the other hand, the accused teachers Gopal Das, Rajiv Panwar, Naveen and Tejinder Kaur are absconding
Giving information, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Rattan Singh Brar added Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the case and the report of SIT concluded that the role of school principal was not found in the case and she was given clean chit.
On September 23, Section 308 of the IPC was added in the FIR but later on the section was removed following the investigation report and legal opinion, said Brar who was accompanied by ACP Surinder Mohan, ACP Harkamal Kaur and Inspector Surinder Singh.
Further, he claimed that raids were being conducted to arrest the accused but they were absconding.
The report of SIT concluded that the accused teachers had indulged into thrashing and harassing the victim both physically and mentally.
The ADCP further said that after recording the statement of the victim, his parents and visiting the spot it was found that the victim had jumped from the fifth floor of the school. The student Atharva Gupta was held guilty of creating indiscipline in the school and was scolded by the teachers. Later, the victim has jumped from the fifth floor of the school in the fear of teachers and parents punishment. However, no CCTV footage of the victim jumping from the rooftop of school was recovered but an eyewitness told the police that the victim had jumped from the fifth floor, added ADCP.
Though the police have concluded the investigation yet some questions still remained unanswered. The police claimed that eyewitness have claimed that the victim had jumped from the fifth floor of the school but who was eyewitness and why didn’t he record his statement to the police earlier.
Twenty days after the incident the police had added Section 308 of the IPC but again after ten days the same section was removed.
