Chandigarh: Dera Sauch Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Wednesday got relief in an alleged rape case against him, as the Single Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the continuation of interim orders in which the trial judge was asked not to make the final judgment till the next date of hearing on September 2.
As the hearing of the case started, the standing counsel for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought time for filing the reply to the contentions raised by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in his application moved in the court through his counsel S.K. Garg Narwana.
The CBI counsel contended that that the CBI has to file reply to the application but it is yet to get the copy of the application. Keeping this in view Single Bench headed by Justice A B Chaudhari adjourned the case for September 2. The court said that the interim order pronounced will continue till next date of hearing.
The Dera chief had moved an application praying that judgment in an alleged rape case against him going-on in the trial court should not be made.
During the previous hearing, the counsel for the Dera chief, S K Garg Narwana had argued before the Single Bench that the CBI had played a fraud with the accused/petioner. He had said that the CBI had neither mentioned in the challan nor in the investigation report about the statements of two victims recorded by the CBI investigating officer-cum-Deputy Superintendent of Police K.L. Raina under section 161 of the CrPC in 2003.
The Dera chief’s counsel had contended that when the accused/petitioner came to know about the statements of two victims, he immediately moved an application in this regard.
