Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police arrested a 19-year-old labourer for allegedly stabbing a 27-year-old vegetable grocer to death on Friday late night at Sector 24, Chandigarh. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Naresh (19).
The accused stabbed Ranjeet (27) with a knife following an altercation. The victim was a resident of Mani Majra. The police sources said that the incident took place at around 10.45 pm at Kisan Mandi at Sector 24, when the duo were folding the chairs and were ready to leave.
The police said that the duo had entered into an altercation earlier as well. On Friday night, the victim abused the accused after the latter emptied the water from a bucket. Following this, the duo again entered into altercation and then the accused stabbed the victim with a knife. The accused then managed to flee from the spot. The injured was rushed to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH) Sector 16 where he was declared brought dead.
The police team then swung into action and arrested the accused on a tip-off. The autopsy of the victim was conducted on Saturday and the body was handed over to the family.
Meanwhile, the accused has been booked under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code at Sector 11 police station. The accused was produced in the local court, where he was sent to judicial custody.
