Chandigarh: Challaned for drunken driving, the local court on Monday suspended the driving licences of two violators among the 252 drivers who were prosecuted for drunken driving on New Year’ eve.
Meanwhile, the court fined over 200 persons who were caught on the charge of drunken driving on New Year’ eve.
The court suspended the driving licences of two persons for three months as they were found caught for drunken driving two or more times.
The two were identified as Dalip, a resident of Sector 38, and Gulsun, a resident of Kharar. The two were also fined Rs 3,000 each by the court.
The remaining traffic violaters were fined from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000 based on the alcohol content they had consumed.
According to reports, the Chandigarh Police issued challan slips to 252 persons who were found drunken driving in Chandigarh.
The police had put up 20 drunken driving checkposts on New Year’ eve from 8 pm to 8 am.
Meanwhile, the UT Traffic Police in charge has written to the Chief Judicial Magistrate, requesting him to suspend the driving licences of traffic violators to implement Supreme Court’s directive for save driving.
