Panchkula: 21st Martyrdom Day of Captain Rohit Kaushal, SM (Gallantry) was commemorated at his memorial raised in the memory of his supreme sacrifice in his ancestral village Jalauli, at (Panchkula-Barwala Road) on Friday.
Captain Kaushal had laid down his life while fighting insurgency in an encounter with militants on November 11, 1995 in Doda District of Jammu & Kashmir. He killed 2 miltants before laying down his life for the security and safety of his motherland.
Member of Parliament Rattan Lal Kataria, officials from Indian Army, District administration and a large number of villagers turned up to pay floral tributes to the martyr. Officers and jawans from the 18 Punjab Battalion to which the martyr belonged, 12 Rashtriya Rifles, Kumaon Regiment and Brigadier Bhadu along with officers and jawans from the western command, Chandimandir were also present to pay homage to martyred officer.
Kataria announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh for the maintenance and upkeep of the martyrs memorial and hall, and also for developing Shaheeds Park on the land adjacent to the martyrs’ memorial to give its benefit to the villagers and the school children. Also on the occasion, students excelling in academics, sports and cultural events at the school and state levels were awarded with certificates and school bags by the parents of the martyr.
