Chandigarh :The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Chandigarh has arrested a 23-year-old youth when he was allegedly procuring 17.400 kgs of charas. The contraband was concealed in a cavity meant for speakers in the rear side of his vehicle (Tata Sumo), said officials.
Kaustubh Sharma, Zonal Director, NCB, said the NCB team had received information that the accused had been involved in drug smuggling for the last two years and supplying charas in Punjab region, especially in Ludhiana, Phagwara, Jalandhar and Amritsar areas. Acting on the information, the NCB team laid a naka at Kharar bus stand and arrested Farooq while he was trying to smuggle charas from Chamba to Ludhiana.
Enquiries reveal that this was the sixth instance when he was trafficking charas from Chamba (HP) to various districts of Punjab. Farooq every time used to bring heavy quantities of the contraband and supplying it in Punjab. The receiver of the contraband was being verified and investigation was under progress. The contraband supplied by him had been used by youths of Ludhiana and nearby areas of Punjab, added Sharma.Racket of misuse of Kamini Vidrawan tablets also unearthed
The NCB Director said that the NCB team had also unearthed a racket of misuse of Kamini Vidrawan tablets containing opium and had during the elections seized the ayurvedic preparations worth Rs 4 crore in three cases in Amritsar city.
In addition, NCB officials, who were deployed in different districts of Punjab, had done commendable job in preventing distribution of drugs. Incidentally a widespread oversight was possible this time by giving necessary logistics to intelligence officers of the NCB. In as many as 104 raids, which were conducted along with different agencies, drugs worth Rs 9.5 crore were seized.
