Chandigarh: After admissions of 234 students under the sports quota in Panjab University were cancelled due to shortage of attendance by the university authorities, students protested outside the Vice Chancellor’s office showing their resentment against the move on Tuesday.
National Students Union of India (NSUI) members staged a protest against the unfair and arbitrary decision of the Dean of University Instruction (DUI).
The students admitted under the sports quota criticised the authorities and raised slogans for not giving any prior notice and warning by the university. “We have to do hard practice to achieve medals for the university and they are treating us badly. Instead of providing support to do well, the authorities cancelled our admissions without telling us,” said Pali, a student, who had taken admission under the sports quota.
Nishant Maini, president of the NSUI, said, “It was a very unfair decision and the students were not informed of any such proceedings and they cancelled the admissions of 234 students.
The students admitted under the sports quota are given attendance based on their regularity in the sport practice as well and this decision ignores their hard work.
