Chandigarh: The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell (CCIC) Chandigarh Police arrested three persons including a woman for allegedly duping a Mohali resident of Rs 45,000 on the pretext of providing work of make-up artist in a five star hotel.
According to police, the accused have been identified as Parveen Kumar, Rohit Verma alias Amit Sharma, both residents of Ludhiana and Sonu Dhaliwal alias Sonia, a resident of Mohali.
Inspector Harinder Sekhon (CCIC) said a complaint was received from Suresh Kumar, a resident of Phase- 7, Mohali, Punjab in which he alleged that on June 5-6, 2016, he received a call from a mobile number (8288930678) and the caller Amit Sharma told him about doing make-up work of foreigner women in hotel JW Marriot at Sector 35, Chandigarh.
After this, the complainant received a call from another number (8146258253) and caller asked him to deposit 1,000 as registration fee and deposit the same in PNB Bank account on June 13.
After a few days, the complainant again received a call from (8146258253) and a girl spoke to him. The girl called him to JW Marriot Hotel, Sector-35 for makeup and told him to bring new makeup kit worth Rs 98,000, but the complainant refused for the same as the makeup kit was costly.
The complainant then received a call from another number (8283877469) Amit Sharma that he can provide the kit on instalment and cut the phone. Accused Amit Sharma asked him to come at Maloya with Rs 20,000 for kit. The complainant went to Maloya with his friend Sandeep Sandy where they met Amit Sharma who took Rs 20,000 from the complainant.
Amit Sharma and his associates cheated him to the tune of Rs 45,000, During enquiry, CAF and call details of all alleged numbers were procured. ‘’We have recovered five mobile phones, 4 sim cards and two ATM cards from these accused persons. Further investigation is in progress to verify how many more people they have duped in a similar manner,’’ said Sekhon Inspector CCIC.
