Chandigarh: Four persons were killed and one sustained minor injuries in separate road accidents in Chandigarh on Monday night. Among the four victims, two, identified as Rajni (26), a resident of Deep Complex in Hallomajra, and Gopal Chauhan of Sector 45, were killed in hit-and-run incidents.
The other two victims were identified as Rohtas, a resident of Sector 26 in Panchkula, and Nikita Negi, a resident of Sector 41, Chandigarh.
In the first incident, the police said Rajni, who was on her two-wheeler, was heading towards her house at Hallomajra when a car hit her near the Sector 29 roundabout . The woman was rushed to GMCH-32 where doctors declared her brought dead.
Another hit-and-run accident was reported when motorcyclist Gopal Chauhan of Sector 45 was going to his house and a speeding vehicle hit him from the rear near the Sector 47 gurdwara. The victim was rushed to the GMCH-32 where he was declared brought dead.
Rohtas of Panchkula, who was on his motorcycle, was hit by a car being driven by Satish Kumar of Sector 47, near Sector 31. Injured Rohtas was rushed to the GMCH-32 where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Jaswinder Kaur, SHO, Sector 31 police station, said, ‘’Three FIRs have been registered and family members of all the three victims were informed.’’
In another such incident, Nikita Negi, a student who was on her Activa scooter, was hit by a car near the Sector 36-37 lightpoint. The girl was rushed to the local hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Sector 36 SHO Inspector Naseeb Singh said, ‘’A case has been registered against an unidentified person. The family has been informed about the death.’’
In the fifth case, Naresh Kumar sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at the GMCH-32. He was hit by a car.
