Panchkula:Colours of all hues, the smell of gulal and joyous spirit did not pervaded the streets well this year as people from all walks in Panchkula though celebrated Holi with traditional fanfare and gaiety; but the numbers turns down with numerous incidents being reported on Monday.
Comparing with last year, the numbers of incidents however were less this time but the scenario turned violent for many thus creating disturbance to peace and harmony of the city. Around 47 cases were being reported at Panchkula Civil Hospital, Sector 6 on Holi among which 39 cases were of road accidents and 8 cases of assault and clashes. According to the staff at the hospital, as many as 21 cases were also reported during night at emergency ward. Among these cases, 5 cases were of those who were brought dead, 10 cases of road accidents and 6 cases of assault.
Other than this, around 7 cases of eye infection were also reported at the eye OPD of the hospital, with 4 cases of skin infection. Principal Medical Officer, Dr Veena Singh said, ‘’This year we had made adequate arrangements to deal with any untoward incident or case being reported in the city. One official from every department was assigned duty along with a surgeon for any serious case. Security arrangements were also made at the hospital.’Meanwhile those celebrated the day in the city exchanged greetings with each other to celebrate the festival of colours.
