Chandigarh: A 70-year-old retired employee of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was killed after a rashly driven Punjab Roadways bus hit his Activa scooter here at the airport light point on Sunday afternoon. The accused bus driver has been arrested, said the police.
The deceased has been identified as Harjeet Singh, a resident of Sector 46. The police sources said that the accident took place when the deceased was heading to Zirakpur from Sector 46, Chandigarh, on his Activa scooter when Punjab Roadways bus heading from ISBT Sector 43 to Delhi.
Trying to escape from the traffic jam, the bus driver took the bus on the slip road where the victim Activa scooter rider was moving. The bus then hit the Activa rider who got badly injured.
Following the accident, the local persons rushed to the spot and called the PCR. The PCR rushed the victim to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32 where duty doctors declared him brought dead.
Meanwhile, acting in the matter, the police have registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act of endangering life or personal safety of others) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station Sector 31, Chandigarh and impounded the vehicle.
The accused identified as Satish Kumar, a resident of Nangal, has been arrested, investigation is under progress, said Inspector Baldev Kumar, SHO Police Station Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh
