The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday dissolved all its units and committees in Punjab. The party will reconstitute its all the units shortly. The newly-appointed president of the Punjab unit Bhagwant Mann took the decision in a meeting of all zonal heads and legislatures held at party office in Chandigarh on Monday. Currently, there are only two office-bearers of the party - Bhagwant Mann, president and Aman Arora, co-president. The committees and office-bearers appointed during the tenure of Sucha Singh Chhotepur and Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi were dissolved by Mann, which seemingly shows that Mann has been given a free hand by the AAP’s Delhi-based top leadership. The chief whip of party in Punjab Sukhpal Singh Khaira and leader of opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha H S Phoolka were also seen in the background on Monday. Khaira claimed to have no personal issues with Mann, but maintained that the party’s u-turn from its ideology stand had forced him to resign from all posts he was holding. Apart from Khaira, Phoolka and Lok Sabha MP Sadhu Singh, all party MLAs and candidates who unsuccessfully contested the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections, zonal heads and other activists attended the meeting. Bhagwant also got their feedback on party’s performance and the current political developments in the state. Mann, however, asked Arora to start his Punjab tour from May 18 and meet all party leaders, workers, activists and common man under its programme “AAP Apno Ke Saath” to seek suggestions and feedback. The party will reconstitute its Punjab unit and other committee only after Arora completes his Punjab tour and analyses the situation. The party has decided to form a disciplinary committee to look after issues related to anti-party activities of members. The committee will keep a vigil on anti-party activities in print, electronic, social media etc and will act against those who are found guilty. The issues of contesting upcoming civic polls and Gurdaspur by-poll were also discussed in the meeting. Talking to media persons, Bhagwant Mann said that his aim was to strengthen the party at booth levels. The AAP will contest Gurdaspur by-elections and other municipal elections in Punjab
