Chandigarh: Belief in Vaastu Shastra, disliking for interiors and also the flamboyant style emerged as reasons for four newly-appointed Cabinet ministers of Punjab to get their offices shifted within five days of assuming charge.
Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Local bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi now have their new addresses in Civil Secretariat here.
The offices of Rana Gurjit, Manpreet and Channi are now on third floor, while Navjot Singh Sidhu has reached the fifth floor.
Unwilling to invite any kind of trouble for themselves, the staff opted for divulging things on the condition of anonymity only. It is learnt that one of ministers cited the reason of Vaastu Dosha in the office. Another one gave a reason of darkness that was disturbing him while working in evening. One minister wanted a bigger office and the fourth one was unpleased with the colour of furniture and the size of waiting lounge meant for the visitors.
Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh honouring the demands of all ministers directed the Principal Secretary (General Administration) K A P Sinha to allot them the offices of their choices, which was implemented by Monday itself.
It is pertinent to mention that Rana Gurjit, Manpreet and Navjot had assumed the offices on the very next day of taking oath but Channi took the charge on Monday only. The administration had also allotted an office to him immediate after he took the oath of office and secrecy on but as Channi wanted a bigger one, it was arranged before him finally coming to assume it.
While the offices of Rana Gurjit, Manpreet and Channi are now on third floor, Navjot Singh Sidhu has reached the fifth floor.
