Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police have booked an inmate of the Model Jail, Burail, for allegedly hiding drugs in his private parts. The police have seized 54 grams of ‘sulfa’ (drug) from his possession.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Deepak, who has been convicted in theft case.
Police sources said that the accused had been made to work in the garden of the jail. The jail authorities had received information that an inmate working in the garden of the jail is possessing drugs.
Following the information, the jail authorities conducted search of the prisoners. The jail staff came to know that the accused had hidden the ‘sulfa’ in his private parts. The inmate was then made to drink 5-6 glasses of water to bring out the drug. After finding the drug, the local police were informed and a case was registered against the accused under section 20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Sector 49, Chandigarh. Meanwhile, the jail authorities are taking the matter seriously and are finding the source of the contraband.
SK Jain, AIG Jail said that an inquiry has been marked in the matter to find from where the accused received the contraband. The role of cops in jail security will be scanned.
