Chandigarh: While the UT Police team remained on toes keeping vigil on ‘Roadside Romeos’ on Valentine’s Day, the ‘Gheri Route’ still remained occupied with chaos. According to the police, around 800 cops including women cops with PCR teams were on duty at 44 check-posts in the city and maximum check posts and cops deployment was at the ‘Gheri Route’.
However, though not much nuisance was reported during the day, the Gheri Route turned into a chaos for several hours. The Gheri Route which includes Sectors 8,9,10,11 and parts of Punjab University, Chandigarh was mostly in chaos.
A policeman on duty at Sector 10 said, “Since Gheri Route is the most popular route to be followed by the youths, especially on Valentine’s Day, every second vehicle commuted with youth including girls crossing through this route today”.
Though we have barricaded several intersections on the route, and our traffic cops are deployed around the corner but the rush of vehicles has increased here from daily routine leading to a bit chaos, said the police official.
Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Police had made adequate arrangements on Valentine’s Day for dealing with any hooliganism. Sixty Police Controlling Rooms (PCR) were also on patrolling duty separating from traffic check-posts.
