Chandigarh:UT Administration on Tuesday authorised Chairman of the Central Administrative Tribunal, Chandigarh Bench, to use the Red Beacon (without flasher) atop his official vehicle.
Also all chairpersons or members of statutory commissions and tribunals, constituted as per the provisions of Rules of the Central Government or the UT Administrator or States of Punjab and Haryana, stationed at Chandigarh are allowed to use Amber Beacon atop of their official vehicles.
The order reads, ‘The Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh in pursuance of powers conferred under clause (iii) of proviso to sub rule (1) of rule 108 of Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and all other powers enabling him in this behalf, specify Chairman, Central Administrative Tribunal, Chandigarh Bench, Chandigarh shall be authorised to use Red Beacon (without flasher) on the front top of their official vehicle and all Chairpersons/Members of Statutory Commissions/Tribunals, Constituted as per the provisions of Acts/Rules of Central Government or UT Administrator or States of Punjab and Haryana, stationed at Chandigarh to use Amber Beacon (without flasher).
Earlier during the last year, the UT Administration has issued the directives for the usage of the coloured beacons atop the various government vehicles. The beacons have been categorised into segments of Red with flasher, Red without flasher, Amber with flasher, Amber without flasher and Blue with flasher, only when on Enforcement duty.
Superintendents of Police (SP’s) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP’s) have been elevated in the category of non-flashing Amber lights allowed to be put up atop their official vehicles. They were earlier allowed to use Blue Beacon.
Red Light (with flasher) facility is wrested only for the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Chief Justice Punjab and Haryana High Court, Judges Punjab and Haryana High Court and Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh.
Amber Light (with flasher) is vested with Member of Parliament, Chandigarh will enjoy the facility of flashing Amber light atop her Mercedes SUV and Mayor of Chandigarh will also have flashing Amber light atop its official vehicle.
