A day after much hue and cry was raised over the appointment of KJ Alphons Kannanthanam as UT Administrator, Centre bow against the pressure of Punjab government and issued notification for appointment of V P Singh Badnore as new administrator for Chandigarh. Bhadnore is poised to administer oath on August 22 as Governor of Punjab at 4 pm at Punjab Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh.
Ending the speculations, the notification was issued on Thursday stating, ‘The President has been pleased to appoint VP Singh bandore, to be the Administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh, in addition to his duties as Governor of Punjab.’
It was on Wednesday that the new of appointment of former IAS officer and Senior BJP leader K J Alphons Kannanthanam as independent UT Administrator after 32 years. Residents of Chand?garh were enthusiastic over the announcement but as the dusk approached, the orders were withheld.Centre withholds the orders in the wake of protest by Punjab CM terming the decision as unethical especially when Punjab is on the verge of assembly elections.The decision however send a setback for city residents but they hope that Badnore will prove better for them.

Chandigarh: Former Union Minister for Railways and Member Parliament, Pawan Kumar Bansal said, “The government cuts a very sorry figure with a flip flop decision.It is unfortunate on the part of government that such high profile appointments are also taken up in such a manner. But still I welcome the appointment of V P Singh Badnore and term hi as an individual whom I know as a man of ethics and has hands on approach. He will prove better for Chandigarh. He will do good for city.”Subhash Chawla, former Mayor and Senior Congress leader, said, “An individual Administrator would have proved better for city residents but appointment of V P Singh Badnore is also welcomed.
