Chandigarh:A Boing Airbus A-320 with registration number in Phonetic Alphabets as VT-IAQ (Victor Tango- India Alpha Quebec) departed for Dubai from Chandigarh International Airport with 127 passengers on board on Monday. It is the second international destination which got connected with Chandigarh after Sharjah.
Low cost airliner, Indigo became the second flight operator after Air India Express to fly abroad from Chandigarh International Airport. Air India Express flew its maiden flight to Sharjah on September 15 placing Chandigarh on international air connectivity map.
Dubai flight scheduled to depart from Chandigarh at 4:15 pm was delayed by about 10 minutes due to air force exercise on the runway and flight finally took off at 4:25 pm. The flight had 127 passengers on board, mostly residents of Chandigarh, Mohali and from other parts of Punjab.
Earlier, same flight arrived from Dubai at 11 am on Monday, with 90 odd passengers. The flight was well in advance by 20 minutes said Vijay Matta, Director, Airport Operations and Customer Services Indigo.
He said, “History has been created from Chandigarh by flying direct to Dubai, the most sought after destination from city. 127 passengers have boarded the flight to Dubai. This will be daily flight departing Chandigarh for Dubai.”
Kala Singh from Faridkot said that it is dream come true for him to board a flight to Dubai. He said, “I am going Dubai for the first time and that also from Chandigarh. I will be working as a driver in Dubai. Reaching Chandigarh from Faridkot is just few hours journey whereas going to Delhi would have wasted one whole day.”
International airport which was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minster Narendra Modi on September 11, 2015 went into rough as the AAI failed to give the first international flight. However with the intervention of Punjab and Haryana High Court taking cognisance of PIL filed by Mohali industrialists, the history was created on September 15 and is now being carried forward with second international flight taking off to Dubai.
