Chandigarh: Media fraternity of Chandigarh scribes have condemned the alleged attack on two journalists of vernacular newspapers on Wednesday. The scribes were on duty at Punjab Congress Bhawan, Sector 15, Chandigarh while they were allegedly thrashed by an Inspector level officer.
Governing Council of Chandigarh Press Club also has extended its unity with all journalists and demanded immediate action against policemen.
One of the victim, Jai Singh Chibber said “I was with Kuldeep, a scribe here at Sector 15 for the coverage of the protest where the policemen came after Kuldeep and me following a minor issue and assaulted us.
One of the senior cop thrashed the Kuldeep very badly, who got injured and was later admitted to GMSH-16, however I escaped somehow from the spot, said Chibber, a photo journalists.
Barinder S Rawat, Secretary General, Chadigarh Press Club has stated in a circular that all of journalists are professional and abides with the journalistic ethics and the Press Club demands to Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator Professor Kaptan Singh Solanki and Tajender Singh Luthra, Inspector general (IG) of Chandigarh police to take appropriate action against the policemen soon so that the security and the dignity of the journalists could be ensured.
