Chandigarh: Enhancing the security at Chandigarh railway station, an up-to-date integrated security system will be provided very soon. With this the railway station will be equipped with the new security machinery, said the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Ambala.
The authorities of Northern Railway, Chandigarh, have decided to upgrade the security arrangements at the railway station being a class A station in the country.
Dinesh Kumar, DRM, Ambala, said, “A proposal to install new security machines and upgrade the integrated security system has been made. The Chandigarh railway station will soon be upgraded with new security equipment, including the luggage scanner, door frame metal detectors and many other items which are an essential part of integrated security system.”
The DRM said the new upgradation will also include the CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras. There will be an adequate number of CCTV cameras around the railway station which will keep vigil over every platform. The exact number of the CCTV cameras could not be confirmed immediately.
An official said the four aspects of the integrated security system would include CCTV cameras, bomb disposal squad, baggage screening and access check within the railway station premises and parking lots. All these things would be on Internet and would be monitored by the senior authorities in case of sudden rush at the railway station, suspicious activities and other law and order problems.
As per officials, more than 50 new CCTV cameras are expected to be installed at Chandigarh railway station. The cameras will include tilt and zoom cameras as well. Meanwhile, for the setting up of the new equipment and CCTV cameras, a special team of authorities has conducted a survey at the railway station to get the installation as per requirements.
According to sources, the authorities concerned had set up around 35 CCTV cameras in 2010 at the railway station. However, after five years the condition of the security system, including the CCTV cameras, has turned deserted.
The GRPF has been sending communiqué to the Chandigarh railway authorities to conduct a survey and upgrade the security system at the railway station.
