Chandigarh: Chandigarh University dominated the second day of the All India Inter-University Powerlifting Championship being held at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Its players bagged six medals, three gold medals, two silver medal and one bronze medal.
The first gold for the university was won by Sahin Dahiya in men’s under 59-kg weight category. He won the gold with a lift of 597.5 kg. He was followed by Kannav Vijay of Manglore University. Vijay Kumar lifted 642.5 kg to take away the medal in under 66-kg category. Manish Garg of GGSIPU, Delhi, grabbed the silver medal in the category. Sunil Kumar of Panjab University with a lift of 630 kg finished at third position. In the under 74-kg category, Rajesh of MDU, Rohtak, won the gold medal. He lifted 725 kg. With a lift of 665 kg, Ashish of Chandigarh University bagged the silver medal.In the women segment also Chandigarh University continued its fine run. Savita Kumari lifted 350 kg in the under 47-kg to walk away with the gold medal. Sanju of BLU, Bhiwani, also lifted 350 kg to settle for the silver medal.Suman of Kurukshetra University bagged the gold medal in the under 52-kg category. Her total lift weighed 385 kg. Raj Kumari of Chandigarh University lifted 367.5 kg to claim the silver medal.In the under 57-kg category, Neha Bhosle of Mumbai University with a total lift of 437.5 kg grabbed the gold medal. K Humeshwari of Manipur University and Manisha of Chandigarh University settled for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
