Chandigarh: Chandigarh seems turning the major halt for the suppliers of Charas which is reported to be most common in usage of the consumers. 35 kilograms of Charas has been recovered till November by the City Police.
The NCB sleuths have learnt that the Charas is being mostly in usage in Chandigarh followed by Opium and Ganja.
According to an official data of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Chandigarh Zone, the NCB sleuths have conducted 27 raids and arrested 25 drug peddlers. The accused were booked under sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS).
In 2016, till November, the NCB have busted 25 drug peddlers and have recovered 35 kilograms of Charas.
Kaustubh Sharma, Zonal Director NCB said “There is high amount of supply of Charas outside discotheques and mostly consumed by youths. The sources of Charas can be different as it is transited from Delhi, Himachal and Nepal too whch is quite cheap in rate.” Innovative ways used by peddlers to hide contraband
Trying to hide the contraband from the cops and concerned officials on check post, the accused drug peddlers are now using innovative ways for the purpose.
An official of NCB said that in the recent arrests made by the NCB, the sleuths have found that the accused kept the contraband kept hidden in their sleepers as have created a special space in it while some have kept the contraband in a special pocket inside their trouser. A few were also caught while they had kept the contraband hidden in the stepnie of the vehicle.
Women peddlers also in trade
The NCB sleuths have also found that apart from men, women drug peddlers are also in the drug peddling.
Kaustubh Sharma said “During our raids we have also arrested a few women who were possessing the contraband and were heading to supply it further.
The Police team have also found the prevalence of chemical drugs including capsules, tablets, syrups and injections which are also in huge supply in city. In 2016, the police team have busted half a dozen drug peddlers and recovered capsules and injections from their possession.
UT Police also held many under NDPS
Meanwhile in the year 2015, the Police team had nabbed 46 drug peddlers and recovered 54 kilograms of Ganja and have recovered 8 kilograms of Charas by arresting 24 drug peddlers.
The Chandigarh Police also claims to have recovered poppy husk the most from the drug peddlers in the year 2014. An amount of 202.100 kilograms of poppy husk was recovered in 2014, followed by ganja 29.169 kilograms and charas 11.340 kilograms.
In 2015, the Chandigarh Police claims to have recovered 11.500 kilograms poppy husk from the drug peddlers. Meanwhile, 173 cases under NDPS were registered in 2015 and a total of 137 cases of NDPS were registered at city police stations and 139 people were arrested under the same.
