Chandigarh: Following the rise of number of accidents in city, UT Administration and Chandigarh Traffic police is far away from controlling unfortunate accidents that happen on city roads every day. Almost 40 accidents are reported on daily basis at Chandigarh police control room.
According to Chandigarh Police Black Book 2016, persons who lost their lives through such fatal accidents are the ones who drive two wheelers. However, the report also states that despite having a proper cycle track for cycle riders, one of the main reason behind these fatal accidents are cycle riders. According to the facts, in year 2015 a total of 416 accidents took place in which 129 accidents were fatal that lead to death and 331 cases of critically injured people were recorded.
Among these around 41.86 per cent were motorcycle riders who lost their lives in these accidents. Also there is a rise in number of accidents at particular roads and also from past couple of years Chandigarh police has declared some black spots in city. The identified black spots are transport light point in Sector 26, railway light point, Shastri Nagar light point, Manimajra light point, airport light point, Hallomajra light point, Sector 46-47-48-49 light point, Sector 45-46-49-50 light point, Sector 25-38 light point, Sector 44-45-50-51 light point and Dhanas EWS flats crossing.
