Chandigarh: Professionals working in the city are in for a shock in the form of a ‘professional tax’ as the Municipal Corporation mulls to impose various taxes to generate revenue. The residents may have to pay toll tax, vehicle tax, even professional tax and advertisement fee.
The supplementary agenda point will come up for discussion during the MC House meeting on Tuesday.
Based on the lines of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the MC Chandigarh has proposed to impose professional tax on individual professionals to the tune of Rs 80 to Rs 2,000 per individual or a company. The tax slab will be imposed covering professionals like advocates, solicitors, doctors, engineers, chartered accountants, share brokers, cable TV operators, tutorials, money lenders, video parlours, factory owners, partnership firms and even salaried employees.
The taxes in the form of toll tax to be levied on the commercial vehicle entering City Beautiful registered under the Motor Vehicles Act to the tune of Rs 100 to Rs 2,000 per anum, depending upon the nature of the vehicle.
Vehicle tax is also proposed to be imposed on vehicle sold within the municipal limit to the tune of 1 to 2.5 per cent on the basic price of the vehicle.
As per the Mohali Municipal Corporation, the MC Chandigarh proposes to charge a fee to the tune of Rs 5,000 for the renewal of the fire NOC. This fee will be charged from multiplex buildings, cinema halls, malls, gas agencies, hotels, marriage palaces, multi-storeyed schools, petrol pumps, colleges universities, circus, open exhibitors, hospitals and saw mills. Also ground-level school for fire call report will be charged at Rs 1,000.
The supplementary agenda point also states that all such advertisements, apart from published in newspapers, will be taxed at a uniform slab. Tax on building payable along with the application for the sanction of the building plan is on the charts.
