Chandigarh: “I don’t want city to go into the hands of land mafia so I want it to remain as UT. The UT status of Chandigarh has proved beneficial for city residents.” This was stated by Member of Parliament Kirron Kher on Thursday while addressing the media. She was elaborating on development while describing the various achievements made in the past few months in the city under MPLAD.
Kher said, “I am not in favour of Chandigarh to go to either of the two states, Punjab or Haryana. Chandigarh as a UT has proved beneficial for the city residents and is doing very fine. Chandigarh is the best city in the country and has the best living standards. We have already attained the Smart City tag for the city and in coming time, it will see drastic changes in face of the city.”
She also said that Chandigarh has fast grown as a city with the best living standards in the country. Disturbing this arrangement will not be accepted by the residents, said Kher.
Kher keen on Punjabi as UT’s official language
Kirron Kher while explaining about the language problem faced by the various villagers under UT, said that she has already asked UT Administration to add Punjabi or Gurmukhi to be part of official languages. She said, “We have often come across instances when villagers fail to read the official orders or notices sent either in English and Hindi. So, I requested the Administrator to direct officers to adopt Gurmukhi as another language for sending officials letters to the villagers. They can easily understand Punjabi.”
